Ancelotti sentenced to one year in prison for tax evasion
The 66-year-old Ancelotti took over as Brazil coach in May. He previously coached Spanish club Real Madrid for two terms, from 2013 to 2015 and 2021 to 2025.
The Spanish tax authorities had alleged that the Italian coach hid income from image rights and other sources in 2014 and 2015, and did not pay more than 1 million euros to the tax authorities.
When the trial began in April, Ancelotti told the court that he had left the responsibility of looking after non-salary income to his British adviser and club authorities. He had never done anything that “could have been fraudulent”. In return, the Spanish tax authorities had accused Ancelotti of being guilty and had requested a prison sentence of 4 years and 9 months.

A Spanish court has sentenced Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti to a year in prison and a fine of nearly 400,000 euros for tax fraud.
The 66-year-old Ancelotti took over as Brazil coach in May after two spells as manager of Spanish club Real Madrid, from 2013 to 2015 and 2021 to 2025.
Spanish tax authorities have accused the Italian coach of underpaying more than a million euros in taxes by concealing income from image rights and other sources in 2014 and 2015.
When the trial began in April, Ancelotti told the court that he had left the responsibility of looking after his non-salary income to his British adviser and club officials. He had never done anything that “could have been fraudulent.” In contrast, the Spanish tax authorities have charged Ancelotti with a crime and have requested a prison sentence of 4 years and 9 months.

According to the news agency Reuters, a Spanish court on Wednesday found Ancelotti guilty of the 2014 charges. Ancelotti was sentenced to 12 months in prison and fined 386,000 euros for ‘crimes against the tax authorities’. However, he was acquitted of the 2015 charges.
However, according to Spanish law, sentences of less than two years are generally not served in prison for crimes that are not violent and the offender has never been convicted before. As a result, Ancelotti will not have to serve prison time.
